December 2023

Another year has passed. It has been a year of beginnings and endings for Whitney Benefits. It began with a new Executive Director. After an extensive search in the Fall of 2022 Erin Kilbride started her tenure on January 2nd. New leadership requires changes and adjustments for everyone. It has been an opportunity to review our Foundation’s operations and with a new perspective implement procedures to improve how we achieve our mission. Looking forward is only made possible after we mourn recent endings. Past Whitney Executive Director Patrick Henderson’s passing this summer ended a lifetime of service dedicated to his family, his church, community organizations and Whitney Benefits. We are working to establish a place at Whitney Commons in his honor. Whitney Benefits’ commitment to education continues, but as we approach the end of the Legacy Grant obligation to Sheridan College and witness the rapidly changing requirements for relevant education, we have taken this opportunity to update our strategic plan. This plan will help us to collaborate with Sheridan College, School Districts, local industry, foundations, and the community to provide the best possible means to meet community educational needs. To successfully integrate this process and act in a way to have the greatest impact on our community, we have hired an educational consultant to assist in the creation of educational pathways to workforce. In this upcoming year, Whitney will see some changes on the Board of Trustees. Long-time Trustee appointed by SCSD#1, Sam Scott, is retiring from the Whitney Board as of December 31, 2023. Everett McGlothin and Cameron Duff appointed by SCSD#2 will also be leaving as the year ends. We thank them for their dedication and time committed to continuing Mr. Whitney’s legacy. To replace these exiting Trustees, with terms beginning in 2024, SCSD#1 has appointed Emerson Scott and SCSD#2 has appointed Heidi Richins and Dave Schultz. As we enter 2024, we recognize that the future of education for all of us will be challenging. Whitney Benefits is excited to be a part of our community’s path forward and continues to take steps towards continued excellence in this area. Roy Garber Whitney Benefits Board President
